A suit on a short trip

The question is usually asked as "how many days", and the useful answer is a different one: which steps your days will actually fit, and which one gets quietly removed when they do not. From ourbespoke tailoring in Bangkok.

What the days are spent on

StageWhat happensCan it be compressed?
Measuring and clothAbout an hour. Measurements, posture noted, cloth chosen, details decided.Cannot be shortened usefully — this is where the garment is decided
Cutting and bastingThe pattern drafted and the garment assembled in tacking thread.Skilled hours. Speed here shows up later, not now
The basted fittingTried on you while the pattern can still change.THE step a very short promise removes
Corrections and finishingUnpicked, corrected, finished, pressed.Compressible, within limits
DeliveryBrought to you.Same day, anywhere in Bangkok

Deliberately no day count above. How long your garment takes depends on what it is and how busy the workroom is, and it is agreed at the first appointment rather than promised on a website — the same way the number of fittings is.

The step that disappears

Every compressed timeline in this city compresses the same thing: the fitting on the half-made garment. It is the only stage that requires you to be physically present in the middle of the making, so it is the only one that can be removed to save a day.

Removing it does not make the suit worse immediately. It makes the pattern final at the moment the cloth is cut, which is a decision about risk rather than about quality — and it is the decision most people are never told they are making. More inhow a fitting works.

Order early in the trip, not late

The single most useful piece of planning, and the one most often got wrong. A suit ordered on day one of a week has a completely different set of options from the same suit ordered on day five.

  • Call before you arrive if you can, and we will tell you what your dates allow
  • Be measured on the first or second day
  • Leave the last two days clear rather than counting on them
  • Add to the order once the pattern exists — that part is easy

What to order when the days are genuinely short

Shirts and trousers are much quicker than a jacket, because a jacket's time goes into structure — the canvas, the chest, the shoulder — and neither of the others has any. A three-day trip that cannot produce a suit can usually produce a very good set of shirts.

The other option is to start here and finish later. Once you have been measured and fitted, the pattern is ours to keep and the rest can be made and sent — seereordering from abroad. That turns a short trip into the beginning of something rather than a rushed version of it.

Treat an impossible promise as information

If your dates genuinely do not fit a garment and someone agrees to it anyway, that is worth noticing. The agreement is not evidence of capability; it is evidence about how the conversation is being run. The fuller version of that argument is inis the Bangkok tailor scam real?

What to do next

Call with your dates before you plan anything around them. We will tell you what is possible, including when the answer is that a suit is not — and in Bangkok that answer is worth more than a yes.

Questions we are actually asked

Can a suit be tailored in 24 hours?
Something can be produced in twenty-four hours; a garment that has been fitted on you half-made cannot. The sequence has a fitting in the middle of it — baste, try on, unpick, correct, finish — and that fitting has to happen on your body with hours either side of it. So a one-day suit is not a faster version of the same process, it is a different process with the correcting step taken out. Whether that trade is acceptable is your call, but you should be making it knowingly.
How quickly can I get something tailored?
Faster than a suit, for most things. Shirts and trousers are considerably quicker than a jacket because there is far less structure to build and fit, so a short trip that cannot accommodate a suit can often accommodate shirts comfortably. The honest way to find out is to give us your dates at the first appointment and get a straight answer before any cloth is cut, rather than a reassuring one.
Can a suit be tailored in 2 weeks?
Two weeks is a comfortable window and more than most visitors have. It leaves room for the full sequence including a proper basted fitting and any corrections, without anything being rushed at the end. If you have two weeks in Bangkok, you have enough time to have a suit made properly and to add shirts to the order once the pattern exists.
What if my trip is only three or four days?
Say so immediately, on the first call. Short trips are workable and they change what is sensible to order — often shirts and trousers rather than a jacket, or a suit started here and finished after you leave. The Boss Tailor works across Bangkok and comes to your hotel, so the appointments themselves cost you almost no time; it is the making that needs the days, not the travel.
Is Bangkok good for tailored suits if I am only here briefly?
It is good for them, and being brief is the thing that most often turns a good experience into a disappointing one. The city can absolutely make you an excellent garment; what it cannot do is compress the fitting out of the process without consequences. Plan the order for the start of the trip rather than the end, and treat any promise that fits impossibly inside your dates as information about the promiser.
